Christmas Greetings!
Christmas Greetings!
Dear Family, Partners & Friends,
In the light of all the world events that have been taking place this year, both nationally and internationally, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what is the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas centres on celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ the Lord. Christmas symbolises God's love, hope, peace and salvation for all of humanity.
It is a time of reflection when we reflect on God's divine love for people, we reflect on family, forgiveness, a time of gratitude, a time of closing off the old and looking forward to the new. We all hope and pray for a happy, peaceful and prosperous future in the coming year for all mankind.
As I think on the word forgiveness, and how through Jesus and His supreme sacrifice on the cross of Calvary, that He took the sins of all people, everywhere, the sins of the entire world. He offers us all forgiveness and pardon and new life as part of His family. Jesus cried from the cross "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." We saw an outstanding and moving example of this, and the power of Christ's love poured out through one's heart, when earlier this year Erika Kirk publicly and sincerely declared to that young man, "I forgive him!" In a hurting world, we now need Christ's love and forgiveness more than ever.
In the middle of the word forgiveness we see the word give! Christmas is a time of giving. One of the Christmas carols that I love is Joy to the World, the Lord is come, let earth receive her King!
The Bible tells us in John 3:16, For God so loved the whole world that He gave His Only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, that whoever believes and puts their trust in Him, can have eternal life. So then, Christmas should be a time of great joy, celebration, forgiving and giving as we become partakers of God's divine nature through Jesus. The Bible says, it's more blessed to give than it is to receive and as the saying goes, "it's not the present itself that we give, but the thought that counts."
I pray that this Christmas season you enjoy great family time, that relationships are restored and people lay down their grudges and differences. Putting aside things that have caused offense and draw on God's love, peace, restoration and His power of forgiveness. Let's all pray for peace and healing in Australia and the Nations.
The First Noel, as we sing each Christmas season, simply means the first Christmas. As I meditated this week on Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” I realised it was the angels who sang the first Christmas carol as above. The word 'carol' simply means to sing or say something happily. It's a song of praise or joyous dance of celebration. People would often dance around in circles expressing great joy as they sang.
There is a lot of anti-semitism in our world today, yet in the Bible in the Book of John 4:22, Jesus Himself tells us, that salvation is of the Jews. John 4:22-24 "You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Remember that God so loves the whole world (that's everybody, including you and me), that He gave us Jesus. Jesus means Emmanuel, God with us. This Name was given to Mary by the Angel to call her child before He was conceived in the womb (Luke 2:21). Jesus is the best Christmas present that ever was or ever will be. He is the gift that keeps on giving! The Bible declares He's a Light to bring light to all people. He is the Light of the whole world.
Luke 2:32 "He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!”
